SPEAKER_01Alrighty, we are on Food Gathering, the eighth section of survival essentials. So why is it number eight? Because food really isn't that important in those first 72 hours when it comes to getting found when you are lost or stranded, or think you're lost or stranded in the wilderness. So again, survival essentials. These eight survival essentials are profound, folks. They were created under the umbrella of what to do and in what type of an order and what you can always be doing every day just in case you ever find yourself lost or stranded in the wilderness. And I've mentioned many times before, I've seen more lost and stranded people in society than I ever did in the wilderness. So why is food gathering the last? Again, because it's really not that big of a priority in those first few days. But it's interesting, there's a real psychology behind this, see, and so food gathering always stay calm and nourished. So, how do we calm ourselves? How do we stay nourished under the circumstances of being lost or stranded? Well, we've already gone through so many aspects of the preparing and training, the stop and first aid, mental clarity and focus, navigation and signaling, water questing, shelter solutions, fire creation, and food gathering. Well, the psychological part is you think that you want it, you don't need it. It's a good idea to educate yourself as to what foods are available in your own backyard, so to speak, and your surrounding areas. And if you are going anywhere traveling around the world, there are enough apps on our phones these days that you can identify quite a bit. However, a lot of these apps have not been well studied as to what could really take place when it comes to knowing your food and medicine in the wilderness. And then there is the third one: traps and snares. There's figure four, traps, paiute, dead, falls, snares, other methods. So when it comes to traps and snares, we want to be able to understand what it takes to take other life to sustain your own. And whatever we choose is ours. If you were there longer than those seventy-two hours, food is going to become ever increasingly important as the days pass. So it might be a good idea to consider in your mind what you're willing to do to sustain your own life. Under the normal circumstances of society, yeah, you know, it's it's a little different, you know, going shopping, buying the meat, etc. like that. But when you take that life and you have gratitude that that life came to you, and you follow a process uh through the connection of Father Spirit and Mother Earth, and about the life force, there's something very connective and beautiful about how life does live upon and feed upon other life for the sustenance of our planet. And then there comes the necessity number four under food gathering. And I just state no water equals no food. So if you don't have water, make water your priority, not food. See, uh, and if you have some food, try not to eat it because if you eat the food and you don't have water, your body will utilize the water within it in order to process and digest, etc., the food that you eat. So when you eat under those circumstances of not having water to hydrate with, you are expediting the process of dehydration. So those are the things we're going to get into into greater detail, the psychological aspects of food gathering. Like I mentioned, what is it to stay calm? What is it to stay nourished? And then thinking about the circumstances and what you might find yourself in, and not just in wilderness survival, but every day, every day, staying calm and nourished. And what is all this around food? And oh my gosh, it's a big deal because I don't know, I'll make fun of this real quick here, but you know, the first three letters in the word diet are D-I-E. You know, it spells die to me, so you know, I just say, hey, learn what you can and eat. Just eat. You don't need to talk about it, don't need to say much, don't need to be on a diet, really. And of course, these are you know the opinions of Winfield, but I've sat around many fires with thousands of people over the decades, and when there is little or no food, the most spoken of topic matter is food. Bizarre. So we're gonna figure this out. I'm excited. We're finishing this up under Survival Essentials. I'm excited for what we get to share in these upcoming episodes. Stay tuned with us, and just understand that every day in your real life, under this umbrella of food gathering and always staying calm and nourished, it's easy, it's simple. There are so many simple things to do. We don't need to make it difficult, just kind of think about it like, hey, if it's growing out of the earth, it's alive and it's probably good. And then when you consider the psychological aspects that you undergo in social ways with food, uh don't cave your standards when you're with others. Of course, you don't want to, you know, refuse somebody's gestures over and over, but if they understand your lifestyle, they will honor that, I'm sure. So stay to your ground about how you feel about what you want to ingest. Remember, it goes back to the very first one preparing and training, always being in a state of readiness, physically, feel your body in every possible way. Okay, that's what I'm talking about here. So stay true to yourself. Learn the wild edibles, educate yourself in every way you can. See, and in life, there's a lot of goodies out there, and there's a lot of toxics in the edibles. There's a lot of plants that'll kill you if you eat them. So, regardless, you just have to learn to be aware, learn to study, learn to trust yourself, follow your instincts, in life, it will serve you well. And then always just keep in mind about your choices in the trade-offs. Or when I'm talking about the necessity of food, no water equals no food. Well, you know what? Just think about your decisions every day. We don't have our lives on the line every day, people, but yet we're kind of putting them there, we're compromising them at our lives in such a manner by making decisions continuously that over time can cost us. So be careful. All right. I'm excited.
SPEAKER_00There we have episode 44 of Survival Essentials, Food Gathering. Always stay calm and nourished. The introduction. What a great intro to food gathering. I'm excited as well to dive deeper into the thinking of food. Not just in a survival situation, but everyday moment-to-moment basis. When my mind is thinking that I need food, do I really need food? What kind of food am I seeking? Am I really hungry or am I upset about something that I am thinking about? Instead of praying and meditating about it, am I looking for something to fill in that empty void, like unhealthy food? Food for thought.
